Dr Rachel Winterton: "What connections can we create for our ageing population?" 3:30-4:15pm including Q&A - 27/10/20

With an ageing population, we cannot continue to ignore the unique realities of social isolation and loneliness of our elders. In this session, we explore the lived realities and systemic shifts needed to create meaningful connections  for older Australians.

Dr Rachel Winterton is a research fellow at the John Richards Initiative, La Trobe University, Wodonga. Her research is located primarily in the field of health geography, and focuses on how rural communities, governments and organisations are managing and responding to challenges posed by population ageing through systems of governance, health and social infrastructure. She is internationally recognised for her work on rural ageing and voluntarism, and is currently completing a series of projects with international collaborators exploring critical perspectives on volunteering in ageing rural communities.
