Salvos Stores at The Salvation Army Aged Care

Today is Mothers day. Maria – turning 80 years old today - is sitting by the window, watching the world go by. Her kids won’t be visiting today. They both live in different cities, both have important jobs, and families. But Maria understands. Mum always understands. She fondly remembers the days when they were little, and they would come running to her in the morning, excited to give her presents they made, wrapped up in whatever paper they could find. Those were good times.

Today is Mothers day. On the other side of the country, Giovanni and Pina are busy with their lives, but miss their Mum. Last year, Pina tried to arrange Mothers Day present through a courier. It turned out to be a disaster. Delivery man missed the delivery, and when it was finally delivered to the reception of the home Mum is living in, receptionist was on her break and someone was covering front desk for her. Package was misplaced unintentionally, and it was not discovered until a few days later. Magic of the moment was lost.

Pina, Giovanni and Maria trust The Salvation Army Aged Care. They look after Maria and they are doing a good job. Mum is settled and happy. Pina’s kids love visiting Salvos Stores and donating their old toys, as well as buying new ones. It’s a treasure chest that is never empty, explains Pina’s older daughter.

If only, somehow, those two could work together and service Mum’s home?

What a great way to communicate your idea- through story! I really enjoyed reading it and was able to understand what your idea is, Ivan. I also think it's an idea that has a lot of merit and definitely covers the missional values of the Salvos. Thanks for joining the Crowd and posting an idea!

Thanks Ivan for this lovely and thoughtful idea. I am sure many of our residents and those still at home receiving our care would have been, or still are in some cases, customers of our Salvos Stores. Collaboration is one of our values so this is putting a value into action.
