Church Gatherings - 'Secret Shopper' Research

Many of our gathered faith communities have a hit-and-miss approach to retaining visitors. It would be helpful if we could engage a research company to send people to our congregations, and then conduct focus groups after a gathering/meeting to see how they are received by these visitors.

This would be a bit like a 'secret shopper' system for churches.

The findings of the research could be aggregated, and presented to our church leadership teams alongside targeted training to address any opportunities identified.

As a part of this research, we could also research different marketing & outreach activities conducted by our local churches to determine which ones are most likely to encourage people to visit one of our churches for the first time.

What department are you from?

NSW/ACT Division Corps

Who is your target market?

Research Subjects: Non-Christians, 'Census'/Nominal Christians, & unchurched Christians

Research Findings: Church Leadership Teams

It would be interesting to know how many people are impacted (i.e how many people come off the street as visitors currently).

Rather than hiring a a research company to conduct focus groups I would find resources within TSA. This could be done through volunteers or our research team.

I'm aware of one Corps where a congregational leader asked a friend (who nobody else knew) to do this in his congregation and the Corps received very helpful and honest feedback.
