When the park is too hot to take the kids bring them down to the Playhouse! This project will redevelop an existing Salvation Army property to purpose build and co-locate our existing Salvation Army Family Store and a high quality indoor playground area for families to use. There are 3 key objectives::

1. To create a facility that will serve the social and physical needs of families in the community with links to our mainly music program and other child/youth related activities.

2. To increase and develop income streams that fund the work of The Salvation Army in Moree.

3. To establish a 'One Stop Shop' for The Salvation Army in Moree with services and staff available from the site.

The facility will locate both the store and the playground in the same building with adequate space for two offices, store sorting and storage areas, parent toilet facilities, a compact cafe and the indoor playground built to minimise maintenance. It is anticipated that the facility will become a significant community hub in Moree of which there is only the town pool. The facility will also be a location to deliver financial counselling, youth services and community welfare assistance.

What department are you from?

Moree Corps

Who is your target market?

Young families, retail customers , community members looking to access support.

Love it... One question - Do these centres require significant insurance? Shouldn't, however, be a roadblock... It would be very popular and a great place for your parents to meet... Congratulations!

Hey mate, as far as I'm aware I'd just have to inform insurance of what we are planning to do and they will ask for further information. If it's approved they will note it down on the policy. Another church that does something similar is Lifehouse Coffs Harbour here's the link. Insurance wise it works for them so I'd be confident we can get through that.

I love this idea so much. Really great idea that helps to meet needs as well as create space for families to come and relationships to be built. I think it would be great to add a café to this...could end up making you some money as well as training and job experience. Love it Jason

Thanks for your comment and encouragement Sandra. The initial thought is to begin a very simple cafe that produces a limited number of quality products, has minimal costs, can leverage our volunteer resources avoiding significant establishment, compliance, maintenance, overheads and risk. On the other hand, if the need for a significant cafe became apparent it would be important to have the appropriate facilties to do so.

Looks like a great idea mate! - I assume your insurance charges will go up but that should be easily offset by the income from the centre.

I spent a lot of time in air-conditioned play centres like this when our boys were little - mostly for the benefit of a catch up with other parents who were also looking for a place to get out of the house. It became a problem because of the increasing price of entry and the low quality but high price of the food served at the cafe, and the rule that we couldn't bring our own food in. If you ensured good healthy affordable food there and could also be deliberate in creating an environment that was a positive place to be, I reckon you're onto something very good! The added bonus of having other services/shop etc on site sounds like a good idea.
