Faith Challenge - Oct-Dec 2019

Over the next 3 years, the vision is to start 300 Breakfast Programs across schools in Australia. By flipping toasted cheese sandwiches and mobilising local mission volunteers, we could be engaging with hundreds of schools across the nation. Gather a small handful of volunteers, add some start up funds, start a conversation with a local school and launch a breakfast program! You'll mobilise young and old. You'll connect with staff and students. Kids will be eating breakfast. You'll create...

SAGE stands for Salvation Army Garden Engagement. Where there is land available on SA Corps or Social Centres, vegetable gardens can be established with the aim to provide a connection point for people in the community. Funding from the grants can be used for construction materials, soil, tools, etc and the installation of a water tank and fences as required.   Small plots could be allocated to individuals/families or larger plots could be used communally. Salvo personnel would oversee...

Faith Challenge - Oct-Dec 2019

I would love to see an App developed to help everyday Christians when they get together in small groups be able to have discussions with each other about how the Christian faith relates to real life.  I believe people want to know how Jesus relates to their life but often don’t know where to start. We could develop an app as a resource so that when two or three (or any number of) Christians come together they can be guided in discussing Jesus and life. Gatherings could be over coffee, in...

Faith Challenge - Oct-Dec 2019

Fix the family and you fix the world. We are living in a world where the basic unit is seen as the individual. The reality is that the basic unit of society is the family and the principal teacher of Children are their own parents, and this includes faith teaching. The Christian church, and particularly the evangelical church has forgotten this, and we developed programs. Unfortunately programs have always been relatively ineffective but we have used them as our principal  method of...

Family violence is a national crisis. 1 woman is killed each week in Australia by a current or former partner. 1 in 4 women have experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner and 1 in 6 have experienced physical or sexual violence (Our Watch). Australian police respond to more than 260 000 domestic violence incidents each year (>700 per day) (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2018). The Salvation Army along with many other services have worked hard over the last 30 years...

Many Chinese migrants feel helpless and isolated because they are unable to communicate effectively in English. When they experience life challenges, they are not sure where to seek help and advice, relying on their limited capacity to deal with difficulties. This isolation and disconnection cause distress, anguish and hardship. It is the very essence of social injustice. The ‘Chinese Language Platform’ is a gateway for the Chinese Community to access The Salvation Army’s services and...

Take a moment to imagine an environment wildly different to yours.  Limited access to the resources we take for granted…things like water, health care and education. This is the reality for many individuals and communities across the world. Many of us Salvos are familiar with the annual International Self Denial Appeal where we sacrificially give One Weeks Salary on Missionary Sunday. The funds raised go to Community Development Projects and Mission Support (Evangelism Projects) across...

Following the successful implementation of the ‘START AOD Community' in the South East Melbourne area, it has been identified that some people are not able to access the program because of transport and distance, so .... why not take it to them! A needs analysis has identified that there is a high prevalence of drug and alcohol addiction and a lack of Therapeutic Day Programs on the Mornington Peninsula. The idea is to expand this 6 week life transforming program into other locations,...
